Material
Fine gold (also called pure gold) is gold in its purest form — 24 karats or 999/1000 fineness. It contains no or minimal alloy metals, making it very soft and rarely used for everyday jewelry. Many pieces of jewelry at ORFÈVRE are made of fine gold. It requires a lot of know-how to make jewelry from fine gold.
Gold used in most jewelry is an alloy — a mix of gold and other metals (such as copper or silver) to increase durability. Common purities are 18K (750/1000), 14K (585/1000), and 9K (375/1000), offering a balance of beauty and strength.
Fine silver is 99.9% pure silver (marked as 999), which is soft and prone to scratching or bending.
Sterling silver — the most common silver in jewelry — is an alloy consisting of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals (usually copper). It's marked as 925 and offers improved durability while maintaining the look of pure silver.
Yes, all of our jewelry is nickel-free and complies with EU regulations, making it suitable for most sensitive skin types.
All gemstones at ORFÈVRE are of natural origin and carefully selected. Each stone is unique and is cut by hand. If the exhibiting artists use synthetic gemstones, this will be explicitly mentioned.
