Walter Wittek gained international recognition with the creation of the tension ring—an innovative technical and aesthetic concept in which a diamond is held solely by the tension of the metal, giving the impression that it is freely floating. With the tension ring, it became possible for the first time to set a diamond into a ring band without any traditional setting. Today, the tension ring is regarded as a design classic and is represented in numerous collections worldwide.
